Usher’s Accuser Says She Always Wore Condoms, Despite Initial Reports

Story From

Usher’s herpes accuser says the singer always wore condoms, despite her saying otherwise in her lawsuit. According to TMZ, Laura Helm said that she only had protected sex with the singer, despite claiming otherwise in her $20 million lawsuit. In a voice recording obtained by TMZ, Helm told a male friend that she would not be suing Usher after hearing reports that the singer had herpes. She also allegedly said that since she always used protection when with Usher, she was not concerned about being infected with the virus.

The conversation took place on July 19th, which was two days before Helm filed her lawsuit and changed her story. As previously reported, in Helm’s court documents, she claimed Usher did not wear a condom during a sexual encounter in New Orleans. Meanwhile, Helm’s lawyer says her client lied because she thought her friend and publicist — who is the male she had the recorded phone conversation with, was trying to pitch a story to blogs about Usher having an affair.

  • West said that Helm “didn’t want to be exploited and, in her attempt to deter Byron from doing so, she told him (inaccurately) that she never had unprotected sex with Usher and that she did not have herpes.”
  • Shortly after the credibility of Usher’s accuser was questioned, the singer allegedly responded to the woman, saying that she assumed the risk of STDs when having sex. According to TMZ, Usher said, “With a one in six chance that any given partner could have genital herpes, [she] assumed the risk of contracting an STD each and every time she chose to have unprotected sex with a casual, consensual partner.”
