NAACP Issues A Travel Advisory

The NAACP has issued a national travel advisory warning African Americans against flying with American Airlines. According to The Rolling Stone, the organization issued a statement, saying, “The NAACP for several months now has been monitoring a pattern of disturbing incidents reported by African-American passengers, specific to American Airlines. In light of these confrontations, we have today taken the action of issuing national advisory alerting travelers – especially African Americans – to exercise caution, in that booking and boarding flights on American Airlines could subject them [to] disrespectful, discriminatory or unsafe conditions.”

Doug Parker, the CEO of American Airlines, has responded to the travel advisory, saying that he is “eager to meet” with the NAACP to discuss the matter. According to The Grio, Parker said, “We do not and we will not tolerate discrimination of any kind. We have reached out to the NAACP and are eager to meet with them to listen to their issues and concerns.”

  • The statement added that the advisory would be effective starting Tuesday (October 24th) and active “until further notice.”
